Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or wanting to better understand yourself and your relationships. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to benefit from therapy—many people come simply because they want support, clarity, or personal growth.

  • The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping to change or understand, and any questions you have about the process. There’s no pressure to share everything right away—we go at your pace.

  • We support clients with concerns such as trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, self-esteem, life transitions, grief, postpartum health, parenting, medical trauma, body image, and learning to navigate difficult experiences with more self-compassion and clarity. For a more comprehensive list of the concerns, you can further explore the team bios to find the right fit for you specifically!

  • The length of therapy varies depending on your goals. Some clients come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper personal work. We’ll regularly check in about what’s most helpful for you.

Sessions at red brick are 50-60minutes.

  • Most clients start with weekly sessions, as consistency helps build momentum and trust. As things improve, some people transition to bi-weekly or occasional check-ins.

At RBW we are committed to supporting your needs and we know that weekly can be challenging for a range of reasons, we will always work with you to create a schedule that feels supportive to you.

  • Yes. Absolutely. Your privacy is very important. Everything shared in therapy is confidential, with a few legal exceptions related to safety (such as risk of harm to yourself or others), which will be explained during our first meeting.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process where you meet with a psychotherapist to talk about challenges, emotions, and patterns in your life. Through conversation, reflection, and evidence-based approaches, therapy helps you gain insight, develop coping skills, and make meaningful changes in your life and relationships.

You are the expert of your life, the therapist is there to guide/challenge/offer perspective and be the expert in the process.

  • Session fees with our Associates at RBW range from $150-$170 per session. (see Our Fees page for specifics)

Session fees with our Interns are $100 per session, with opportunities for sliding scale (lower rates) depending on financial need. Please discuss with your therapist directly or email us to learn more!

Payment is due at the time of the appointment. Receipts are provided for insurance reimbursement where applicable.

  • Yes. We offer a free 20 minute phone consultation call so you can ask questions, share a bit about what you’re looking for, and see if working together feels like a good fit. Your therapist will guide the conversation and explore your needs.

  • Sessions are available in person and online, depending on your preference and availability. Virtual therapy allows you to access support from the comfort of your home.

Our office is located in downtown Whitby and we find clients from the GTA, Durham region & Clarington find it very accessible.

  • Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.

  • No problem at all! Therapists on our team offer a range of hours, with several hosting sessions after 5pm and on weekends. We understand the need for flexibility due to life and work constraints and never want it to be a barrier to accessing support. So we flex our time to be there for you!

  • That’s completely natural. Many people feel uncertain before their first session. Therapy is meant to be a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are. We often find that naming the nerves at the time of meeting your therapist is helpful to break the ice. We will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible and go at your pace.

  • You can book a consultation or first appointment through the contact form or online booking page. If you have questions before booking, feel free to reach out.
